A day in the life of a Fractional Marketing Director
Fractional roles are a relatively new term and many people don't understand how they work in practice. Working for multiple customers simultaneously requires organisation – something I’m thankfully quite good at!
I break work down into hour chunks of dedicated time and after each chunk I log the hours worked along with actions taken. This log is sent to each customer with every invoice so they can see exactly how I have spent my time. A meeting or call each month determines the focus for the month ahead.
Here’s a typical couple of working days:
Day 1
9.00: Customer A: Design social posts for the upcoming month and send for approval. Create a stand layout including banner design and game ideas for an upcoming exhibition with options and costs.
11.00 Break
11.30: Customer B: Creation of case studies and press release for upcoming trade press feature
13.00 Lunch
14.00: Customer C: Website and social media analysis. Adding suggested improvement areas into their marketing report and creation of a presentation being delivered in a few days.
15.00: Tea break
15.15: Continue with above work for Customer C
16.30: Business admin
Day 2
09.00: Customer B: Create specification sheet for upcoming CRM project (implementing a new system). Document sales and marketing processes linked to supporting documents to support this project.
11.00: Break
11.30: Customer C: Create KPI grid to ensure effective measurement against objectives and finalise actions for their 2025 Marketing plan.
13.00: Lunch
14.00: Customer D: Create half page ad and online MPU banner to support upcoming trade press feature
15.00: Tea break
15.15: Customer A: Build database of relevant and named contacts to send brochures to. Update website to change logo, remove obsolete products and add new ones.
16.30: Business admin
And when do I get time to write my LinkedIn content? On the train seems to be where the majority of my content writing happens!
